Boy Scout Attendance Expectations

1) In order to participate in any Troop outing a Scout must:

A) Submit permission slip and payment on or before due date set by Scoutmaster;

B) Participate in all preparation and training for that outing;

C) Be of sufficient rank and age to participate per BSA rules;

A Scout must Be Prepared. It is impossible to plan menus and sleeping arrangements without an accurate count of who will be attending a function; Without proper planning and training people get hurt. Troop 52 has never had a serious accident on an outing in over 70 years. We need to keep it that way.

2) Meeting and Outing participation:

Scouting is designed to develop knowledge and leadership skills in young men. It is important that a Scout attend as many meetings and outings as possible for this to happen. It is only by attending Troop functions that a young Scout will learn from the older Scouts and also that the older Scouts will teach the younger Scouts what they have learned. It is very important that “older” Scouts attend meetings and camp outings in order to teach and lead the younger/newer boys. For these reasons Troop 52 expects that all Scouts will attend as many meetings, outings and training sessions as possible. Scouts who are not actively participating will not fulfill the requirements of Rank Advancement as set forth in The Boy Scouts Handbook. A Scout should attend at the very minimum 75% of all meetings and outings. A Scout is Courteous. If you are not going to make it to a meeting it is important to notify the Scout Master or SPL as soon as possible.

3) Fund Raising Participation:

Troop 52 is a fully self sufficient group. We conduct several Troop fund raisers every year to pay for such things as camping gear, cooking gear, Merit Badges, Rank Badges and outings such as Action City. Failure of any Scout to participate in any and all fund raisers puts more responsibility on the other Scouts. As a Boy Scout you are expected to “pull your weight” and contribute to the overall well being of the Troop. If all Scouts do not participate in a Fund Raising activity it is unfair to the ones who have worked hard to raise the money. Further, failure to raise funds will mean elimination of such things as the annual Pool Party at Christmas and the Action City outing every spring. A Scout is Thrifty.

4) Community Service:

Another aspect of Scouting is performing Community Service. Your Rank Advancement often requires that you perform a certain amount of Community Service, but the Troop is expected (required) to perform community service outside of the Rank Advancements also. Several times throughout the year the troop conducts organized community service such as Marching in Parades, Flag placement and removal at cemeteries‘, and food drives. You are expected to participate in these and other (Star, Life and Eagle Projects) activities for three reasons: 1) The Troop must project an image of solidarity to the community, meaning we work together for the betterment of our world; 2) To learn teamwork; 3) To get in the habit of helping our friends, neighbors and anyone less fortunate than ourselves. A Scout is Loyal, Helpful, Cheerful, Friendly, and Kind.
